The hallway is not always a small, unlit space. In some homes, the hallway can be almost the size of a living area and it could be a well-lit space with floor-to-ceiling windows, or even unusual-shaped windows, such as round or oval ones. Landings may also be large areas in some older homes.
There are a number of reasons why you would want to have window coverings for this space: not only for privacy, but also for the sake of security. Perhaps you might have some elegant artwork or a sculpture in this part of the house, which you don't want on public view. Or, if you are going on holiday, you may not want to advertise the fact by allowing passers-by to see the post building up in the hallway.
